Impact and Value

Education
We believe in the transformative power of education. The educational impact of the BMHNS will go beyond traditional learning, fostering a deeper understanding of our heritage, culture, and ecology. Through its dynamic programming, the museum will integrate key issues like climate change and ocean science into the national conversation, empowering Bahamians—especially young people—to form informed opinions and actively engage in discussions on these critical topics from an early age.

Cultural Preservation
The BMHNS is dedicated to preserving and sharing Bahamian history and natural heritage. Through its immersive exhibitions, the museum will safeguard and illuminate the nation’s traditions to ensure that vital knowledge is documented for future generations. As a cultural hub, residents and visitors alike will be inspired to deeply explore our renditions, and foster a greater appreciation for the Bahamas’ unique legacy.

Reclaiming History
The BMHNS is committed to rewriting history from the true perspective of the Bahamian people. For too long, key events, such as the story of colonization and the indigenous Taino people, have been told through a skewed lens. The museum seeks to reclaim these stories and understand how our history has shaped Bahamian identity. We will present a more accurate and inclusive account of The Bahamas’ position as a gateway to the colonial world, exploring the legacies of piracy and the transatlantic slave trade. Our exhibitions will also shed light on contemporary history: the journey to independence, the fight for women's suffrage and majority rule, and the ongoing evolution of the nation. The museum will also compile into a comprehensive history of The Bahamas insights across nine family islands, digital remakes of heritage sites, and cultural traditions unique to their various settlements.

International Reach
With its immersive digital exhibits, offers a unique online experience that brings the rich culture and heritage of the Bahamas to a global audience. Visitors from around the world can explore the nation’s history, landscapes, and traditions, sparking curiosity and a desire to experience the Bahamas in person. The Bahamas Museum of History and Natural Science plays a crucial role in diversifying our tourism economy by attracting new segments of visitors, expanding our international reach, and offering a deeper, more holistic experience that goes beyond sun, sand, and sea to showcase the rich cultural legacy of our country.
